Barrowhouse GAA 5 year plan

A meeting to launch our strategic 5 year plan will take place on Sunday 27th Nov @11 am in the hall
Come along and have your say on how your club will develop in the future.

Mock Wedding

The wedding of the year was a great success with 200 "invited guests" and one gate crasher showing up on the night. Well done to all the cast who did a brilliant job preparing and organising the event. It was one of the funniest shows seen for years. The talent in the area is obviously not just confined to the football field!

Dvds of the night are available from any member of the committee.

Fight night 2010

The Ballylinan organised Rumble in Dreamland turned out to be a great success and a great night out. The event which was postponed from early Dec. eventually went ahead on the 28th Dec. A crowd of over 500 packed into dreamland to watch the bouts on show. In all there were 10 bouts and Barrowhouse were represented in four. The four fighters on show were Mikey Langton, John Kenny, Noel Buckley and Donal Curtis. All four fighters did themselves great justice with both Mikey and Donal Curtis winning their respective bouts while both John and Noel were narrowly beaten by younger opponents.

Well done and thanks to all the fighters and indeed to James Lanigan and Paul Kenny who originally trained to represent the club but had to withdraw due to injuries.

New team kit sponsorship

Many thanks to Michael Purcell for his continued support of Barrowhouse GAA. Michael has recently agreed to sponsor a new playing kit for the junior A squad this year. Purcells have had a long association with Barrowhouse GAA and indeed if you look around the walls of the establishment you will see a glowing tribute to one of Barrowhouse's great players Mick Phelan.

Michael and Catherine are pictured here at the official presentation of the jerseys with players Karl Fitz, Tom Page and Kevin Langton, selector Richard Davis as well as chairman Pat Whelan.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a replica jersey please contact a member of the committee and we will arrange some jerseys if there is sufficient demand.

New grounds starting to take shape

Work on our new grounds is now progressing at a fast pace. The outline of the new adult pitch is now visible, the carpark area is cleared and the area of the new dressing rooms has been marked out. The juvenile pitch should be levelled by mid August. For a video of the ongoing work please click on the following link www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjTJXpzLZWY

New text messaging system

I am setting up a new text messaging system via a new website www.teamer.net. You can send photos of Barrowhouse teams, events etc. to me on this site. We will also be offering free text alerts to all club members using this service. If you want to receive message alerts but are not yet a member please contact me.

Former Laois and Barrowhouse player voted in top ten all time junior players.

In a recent article in the Laois Nationalist (2/3/2007) the late Mick Phelan was voted in the top ten players of all time to play with a junior club in Laois. Mick played with Laois for a number of years in the late forties and fifties. He made his senior debut for Laois at 18 and played in the Leinster final of '59 scoring two goals as laois went down to Dublin. Other names that were on the list were John Conway (Arles), Fintan Walsh (Ballylinan), Teddy Delaney (Stradbally) and from more recent times Derek O'Connell (Kilcavan).
