Barrowhouse GAA club was established in 1919.
We have won numerous county championships in the past. Our roll of honour includes three Intermediate championships 1980,'85 and '92, three junior championships 1928,'48 and '74, division 2 league winners 1992 , div.4 league winners 2006 and div. 3 winners 2007. We have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the senior championship as well as playing in numerous county finals at junior and intermediate level.
Up until 2006 our most recent of our championship sucesses occurred in 1992 when we won both the Intermediate championship and the Division 2 league.
In 1995 we qualified for the quarter finals of the senior championship defeating Ballylinan in a replay before being eventually knocked out by Stradbally.
Laois teams
We have also contributed Laois county championship teams over the years with both Mick Phelan and Billy Malone representing the club in the fifties. Kieran Whelan broke onto the Laois team in the 70's before heading off to the USA while Ger Daly was on the panel in the 80's.
In the 90's Brian Keville captained the Laois junior team that played in the All-Ireland final in 1993 collecting the Leinster crown on the way. Kevin Phelan was also a member of that team.
We have also had a long tradition of players who played on minor and U-21 teams down through the years and while until recently success for these teams was limited, Barrowhouse players frequently contributed well to them.
