St. Josephs/Barrowhouse claim U16 title.

Under 16 FC B final
St. Joseph’s/Barrowhouse 2-10 Ballyroan 1-6

THIS exciting under-16 final was to be the second of two games in O’Moore Park on Saturday morning with both sides hoping they had all their work done to achieve success.

The game’s first score came three minutes in when Ballyroan’s Adrian McDonald sent over a free and it took ten minutes for the next score, which came from Joseph’s half back Gavin Moore.

Paul Kingston and Adrian McDonald traded points before Kingston gave Joseph’s the lead when he sent over a free, followed by another which he hit off the post before sending over the rebound.

Gavin George extended their lead with another free and a point from Mark George left the men in gold with a four point lead.

With 26 minutes gone it could have been worse for Ballyroan when keeper Evan Hearns allowed the ball to bounce over his head only for it to come back off the crossbar but the ball made its way back up the field and centre forward Bill Duggan sent over from out wide leaving three points between the sides going into the break.

At halftime Joseph’s would definitely have been the happier with some excellent fielding and Ballyroan surely hoped to ignite their performance in the second half.

And it looked like that was going to happen when M.J. Lalor and Martin Scully sent over to bring Ballyroan back to two points behind the Kellyville lads.

But it was Kingston again who took control of the game with two points followed by him dispossessing Sean Phelan to set up Matthew Campion for his first of the day.

Ballyroan though were not going to concede easily and to make this point Jimmy Kirwan broke through and blasted to the net leaving a point between the sides with ten minutes remaining.

Again as before, Joseph’s knew when to turn the form back on and a goal from Joey Devoy extended their lead despite the best efforts from Sean Murphy to keep it out.

It didn’t take long for a second St. Joseph’s goal and when keeper Hearns failed to clear his line, man of the match Kingston was there to fist to the net leaving his side with a comfortable seven point advantage.

Conor Broderick and Campion traded points but that was to be it for this game leaving St. Joseph’s the deserved victors having out-played a gallant Ballyroan side who battled to the end.

ST JOSEPH’S: David Brennan, Adam Campion, Dan Dunne, Luke Malone, Donal Ramsbottom, James Brennan, Gavin Moore (0-1), Gavin George (0-1, f), Mark George (0-1), Robbie Lyons, Paul Kingston (1-5, 2f), Joey Devoy (1-0), Matthew Campion (0-2), Darren O’Keefe, Padraig Condron.
